How I Teach Golf

My Teaching Philosophy

Golf is a game which can be played several different ways. Equipment, technique, and perception are among the most influential aspects of golf which will have a direct effect on how the game can be played. Although each player has their own unique makeup of these aspects of golf, when it comes to technique, I believe there are 5 fundamentals that all golfers should learn and understand:

Grip

Our hands are the only contact we have with club, and how we grip the club has a direct effect on how the club face will be throughout the swing.

Setup/Alignment

In order to get the ball where we want it, we must know how to aim not only the club face, but our body as well. Having a balanced and athletic posture will be key to start moving the club.

Body Movement

Using our body effectively will give us the control needed to make solid contact consistently. Staying centered and having proper rotation are the key factors

Swing plane

Each player has a unique swing plane, based on their body type. I define swing plane as the plane from which our club shaft makes at setup and believe the swing should stay on or near this plane, especially at impact position.

Ball flight

The final fundamental is key to understanding why the ball does what it does in the air. Ball flight is based on club head speed, centeredness of strike, swing path, face angle, and angle of attack.
